Victoria: 65,219 yearly scams reported.

The Numbers behind scams

Australians lost $384,244,013.19 that is  $32,020,334 per month, $7,389,307.94 per week and $1,052,024.71 per day in 2024.

In the 2023-24 financial year, approximately 3.1% of Australians aged 15 and over experienced a scam, up from 2.5% in the previous year. This shows that scams are a growing issue. Showing overall concerns of being scammed.

Targeted Age Group

According to age groups the main people affected. 

Number 1 group was 65+. With a reported of 71,248 cases reported. 118,365,865 and a median loss of $1,000.00 

Number 2 group was 55-64 with a total of 36,037 reports and 68,860,560 with a median loss of $585.50 

The 3rd highest group affect is people aged 45-54. with a total loss of 57,422,987 and a median loss of $500. 

The fourth highest group is people aged 35-44 With a total amount stolen of $47,705,886 per year. With the median amount stolen of $500. 

With Men lost more money per person on average (~$1,408 vs. ~$1,024). 

Women reported more scams, but their total losses were lower.
